A Fine Find was the Frigidaire Flair for FREE!

dscn1962

I wanted a Frigidaire Flair stove for the kitchen in my office.  The kitchen is quite small and narrow – I mean the house was built in 1875 – when kitchen size was not a priority. I am guessing that builders did not have the anything as mundane as a kitchen as a major feature in the construction of a home.

Anyway, I digress.  ( I almost always digress. I am a grand digress-tress – I guess…)

This was on Craigslist for $200 and I was the first to call.  Then they sort of flaked out and finally just called me to come and pick it up TODAY – as they were moving out.  “Come and get it off the porch for FREE.”

OKEY DOKEY!

If General Motors still made stoves like this – we would not have to give them a gazillion in tax dollars to bail them out.

I think a pink kitchen suits a mid-century stove.

Look at how little depth this stove take up.

Want a cup ‘o tea in the afternoon?  Just pull out the stove top and it is tea time in no time at all…

After putting a 21 pound turkey in and out of my home oven yesterday – the arm-level oven height of this vintage design just seems like common sense.

Does common sense say to give a big corporation a bail-out when they cannot run their business in a cost effective manner?

Hmmmmmm…..

  1. Hi,
I just got a Frigidaire Flair in mint condition for free on craigslist. I have wanted this stove since I first spotted one while on my honeymoon 16 years ago.
I live in a 100 year old cape cod cottage with a tiny kitchen with a fabulous view and am a bit at a loss of how to incorporate this mid-century beauty into my home on an extreme budget…Any ideas?

  2. Hi Cindy -

I sorta figure that one need not decorate everything to a certain era.

Your house has lived through the Victorian era and the roaring 20’s and the 1960’s – so I would say to use the Flair and just incorporate it into your daily life and let the stove enjoy its’ new home!

As long as you have the 220 wiring for the stove – you should be ready to go!

I would love to see a picture of your kitchen and how you go from here…

    Best of luck -

  3. Hi, Barb,

I love these stoves! I found another just by talking to the person next to me in the grocery store! She heard my teenager talking about how cool the flair is, and voila! She mentioned having one taking up space in the
    garage…..
The next thing you know, we are in her garage getting it out of her way and my son has a surrogate grandma!
It has the exhaust vents and filters….
Wow…now I have the atomic age 1950’s double oven and the more modern 1960’s double oven!
    I may swoon!
I’ll send you pics, soon, if you’re interested…

  4. 20 years ago I fell in love with a pink 40″ and lost out on the estate sale bidding. BUT I found two 30″ Flairs and put them side by side. Two large ovens and 8 burners…Heaven for a cook. Married again & he didn’t like them so he remodeled and bought me a new expensive JennAir. Hated that thing so much, couldn’t clean it or change a bulb. Finally sold it. I want a Flair again and I’m on the hunt. Sure wish I could find a cute one that works. If you have never had a Flair, you probably don’t know what the big deal is. Instant burner boils water FAST, tilt out oven windows for easy cleaning, slide in burner top to save space. You can even pull out only about 12 ” (2 burners) if you’re in a hurry or just want to simmer something without having everything out in the way. Easy to lift things out of the ovens……I could go on and on.
