The Drought has Dried up and Off we Go!

The past few weeks the pickin’s have been mighty slim.

Today was a much better day.

I went to a local church rummage sale and at first as I wandered about – nothing.

Then I found this absolutely fabulous folk art – outsider art – primitive style needlepoint.

It is not for sale.

It is on my wall at home already.

Look at Mr. in his green sweater and is that a hint of a bolo tie, perhaps?  And those old man glasses and piercing blue eyes.

Mrs. has red hair and green eyes and that fair complexion with a blush on her cheeks.

Cost?

$1.00

Value?

Priceless.

At the same sale, I spied a Danish Modern sort of table with a drawer that was really a basket.

Weird and cool, and expensive for this sale.

I looked at it a couple of times and the crazy price put me off.

I went back to work.

I decided to do a little research on the table and then Wham!

I locked up the office and went back to the sale and paid the crazy price!

Here is what I bought:

Turns out that this is a mid century sewing table designed by Hans Wegner.

It is a Good Thing.

A Very Good Thing.

I put it on craigslist this afternoon.

I priced it about 1/2 of the going rate or less because it sure could use refinishing.

I am a good finder – not a good fixer…

Wish me luck!

A Swedish Dish – A bad Bunny and more

DSCN7157I found a cool 60’s dish from Sweden last night and put it on ebay today.

It took me about 1/2 hour of googling to find out it was called Jie and that indeed, I was correct about it being vintage.

I KNEW it was a cool looking thing.   Just was not positive it was not a brand new Ikea mid-century knock off.

Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference.

Older pottery “feels” a little different than newer.

Nice, eh?

Not so nice.

This was so bad – it gave me the heebie-jeebies.

IMG_5295My kid had soccer practice at a school down the road and there was a mural in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

And then Martin got tagged.

A Norwegian Garden of Lotus Leaves ala’ Cathrineholm

I think collectors are born, not made.

I have always had collections.  When I was a kid – it was free stuff – rocks – driftwood – bugs – feathers – I even kept all my baby teeth!

Some collections fall out of favor with me and away they go.

Goodbye salt and pepper collection – (except for white range-top ones)  – Goodbye Black Americana – Goodbye Arts and Crafts pottery…

I still collect some things.

Not all things anymore.

Cathrineholm is the name of a now defunct Norwegian company and my favorite pattern is the lotus pattern manufactured in the 1960’s.

dscn2436 Nice, eh?

Note that as a natural born collector, I can honestly say that too much is really not enough…

dscn2437They look so pretty together in a lotus garden sort of way.

Did I mention that I LOVE a bargain?

I have been collecting on the cheap so long that it just feels natural.

dscn2440OMG – just LOOK at the price tag on that one!

I almost cried when that thrift store moved out of town!

I got my Subzero fridge there for $159.99

Really!

A Danish Modern Sunday

Found a cool chair at Goodwill this afternoon.  Not certain who designed it.  I think it is like 1970’s Danish styling.

I had a  chair that I was tired of and had JUST started thinking of looking for something with a low profile for my room  – and low and behold – there it was.  It had just been put out today.

I had them write up the tag and then I totally spaced out and went grocery shopping – then stopped at the Goodwill closest to my home and looked a red chair there and then my brain went – “chair…chair…CHAIR!”  and I  realized — I totally forgot to pay for the Danish Modern chair and pick it up.

So I hightailed it back to the other Goodwill and someone had been going through linens and piled them up on the chair – so nobody else got to it before me.   Whew!  I bought it and had them put it in the car and now it is happily placed in my living room.

The old chair is headed for Goodwill tomorrow.   Nothing like recycling furniture!  That is so Green of me!
