Saving at the Goodwill Outlet Store

I guess I was the only one who felt sorry for the box of slides in the bin at the Goodwill store where you pay for everything by the pound.   I took all those slides out of the (heavy) metal case and put them in a (light) canvas tote bag.

I could not justify having someone’s personal photos get ground up into garbage.

I brought them home and sorted the ones that interested me from the batch.

Not interested in these.

These were more interesting.

Most of them had “old man writing” on them with descriptions of the locations.

Most are from the late 1950’s to early 1960’s and of the Columbia River Gorge and the Oregon Coast.

This morning, I thought I would try to take a picture of the slide with my camera.

Not easy to do.

I carried a slide around the house – here and there – to get some direct sunlight and to get my little camera to focus on the slide and not “through” the slide.

However.

I got some cool and interesting photos.

This slide is a 1950’s Chevy in the lower left – parked on the side of the road in the Gorge – –

and the bamboo on my back deck.

There’s the car and the wood on my deck too!

There’s the car and a Finnish tapestry and what appears to be a volcano but is really glare.

I like it – it has a very surreal look.

I will probably experiment with many of these slides and have fun with them.

I am very glad I saved them.

*************

This was at the smelly thrift store on Saturday.

Everything was 1/2 price.

This would then be $250 –

I saw another dealer in the store and she said this was hers in the 1970’s.

It had been in her daughter’s room.

She paid $500 for it then – sold it at a garage sale years later for $250 – and there is it again!

Did not buy.

Cool looking piece though….
